"2 deaths" (Charles Bukowski)

you told me many years ago
(long before Stravinsky died
today)
that you wanted to learn
everything
about engines and buildings
and war and women
and cities
and the history of
Man
and I told you
it's tiresome
don't bother
what counts is not what we
know
but what we don't
know.

you wanted so desperately to prove that you could
know what was not already
known.

and when I saw you in your
casket I had no idea that
Stravinsky would also die
today
and that I would sit here
and write about both of you
tonight.

"2 mortes"

você me disse muitos anos atrás
(bem antes de Stravinsky morrer
hoje)
que você queria aprender
tudo
sobre motores e monumentos
e guerras e mulheres
e cidades
e sobre a história do
Homem
e eu disse para você
é muito desgastante
não se incomode
o que conta não é o que
sabemos
mas sim o que nós não
sabemos.

você queria tão desesperadamente provar que podia
saber o que ainda não era
sabido.

e quando eu vi você no seu
caixão eu não tinha idéia
de que Stravinsky também
morreria hoje
e que eu me sentaria aqui
e escreveria sobre vocês dois
nesta noite.
